LAWSON'S LANTERN regular communication from our lead pastor
Sunday Picnic The weather forecast is moderate, given the "new normal" established for Calgary summer this year. Here's some details you may want to know:
Visioning Meeting Last Sunday I invited the congregation to join a group of us who would meet to pray and talk about two questions: "How can we increase the experience of community at NWRC?" and "How can we become a church FOR our community?" Can you see how these questions flow out of a CSC slogan: "People in community, reaching their community"? Clearly, these question are the right ones to ask - 28 of us gathered, Wednesday evening, to talk about them. Your staff is encouraged by the time and sincerity invested in this discussion. We saw a depth of desire that greatly encourages us. We will share some of the outcomes of this meeting later in the fall. Prayers for Comfort Susan (Bruce) Mitchell's mother has passed away. Kevin (Angela) Davidson's father is now with Jesus. Dee Anstey's Dad has passed away. Please pray for these, our friends, as they grieve the loss of loved ones. Word Byte Think on this interesting quote from Ivan Klima: "Soullessness keeps company with fear. People who have given up their souls have only a body and it is the body that they are terrified about. As a result they are afraid of losing the creature comforts that still remain. People who have not given up their souls can overcome fear because in the end fear always comes from within and not from without." Reminds me of something Jesus said: "Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who despise their life in this world will keep it for eternal life" (John 12:25).
