COMING THIS FALL!

The Outpouring: A Worship Experience

Every third Friday of the month at 7PM in the galleria of CSC beginning September 17th, 2010

"In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people."  - Acts 2:17

"God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." - Romans 5:5

On the third Friday every month we will be hosting an evening of worship, prayer and celebration for the whole community. To launch The Outpouring Jason Zerbin (www.zerbinmusic.com) will be joining us to lead in worship. Jason and his band serves as ambassadors for the Special Needs Ministry. You may have already heard Jason at the Photo Shoot Luncheon and at the No Limbs To No Limits event with Nick Vujicic. Jason is a gifted, Spirit-filled worship leader and loves to see all people, regardless of ability, engaging God's presence in worship and sharing their gifts in the Spirit of worship.

Thomas Lo will also be sharing his remarkable testimony with us - come and hear how God has given him "peace which surpasses all understanding" (Philippians 4:7) and contentment in the midst of life's greatest challenges.

Volunteer Training Luncheons

Quarterly equipping sessions beginning Saturday, September 25th, 10AM-2PM

Our fall training luncheon on September 25th will include topics by agency leaders on Abuse Protocol and Understanding Autism. We plan to offer training sessions quarterly, so please send us your suggestions for future topics to equip volunteers and the wider community at CSC to serve and support people with special needs.

Small Group Ministries

We are currently seeking new hosts who will open up their homes, as well as facilitators & assistants in a support role. Small groups are a life-enriching experience - a safe place to share, pray, serve and celebrate life together! Small groups are not merely an additional program added on to people's already overloaded lives, but the primary social unit of God's Kingdom.

We are looking at planting a couple more groups in the city that include adults with developmental disabilities, and our intergenerational small group for families is growing as well. We are in great need of volunteer support in diverse capacities to continue multiplying small groups for the whole family across the city.

We encourage all families to commit to sharing their lives in a small group context. Aside from the Special Needs Ministry small groups, there are hundreds of CSC small groups located all over the city, and we are happy to support your families inclusion in your area of the city.

Respite Ministries

Once a month we host respite events, which provides a fun, safe, God-filled activity for children with special needs and a much-deserved break for parents. This summer children have enjoyed a Sylvan Lake beach party, Day at the Park, and Corn Maze/Petting Zoo outing. We've also facilitated all kinds of fun events this past season too, such as pool parties, zoo outings, and special event parties, like Christmas, Valentines & Chinese New Year!

We are always looking for volunteers to help support these events, and for those who enjoy social coordination, to plan and facilitate events! Respite events are a great entry point into the life of our community, and often the volunteers have as much, if not more, fun than the kids!

Many parents are also in need of respite workers to offer support in their home or to take their son or daughter out in the community for recreational activities. If you are interested in offering your time to support this much-needed and meaningful ministry please contact us.

Hand Bells

Wednesday's at 7PM beginning September 15

Under the gifted leadership of the hand bells director, Corinne Thomas, 2009-2010 was another successful year for the hand bells choir, with performances at senior care centres, the Maranantha community, a prayer night at a community agency, a funeral, and the annual CSC Worship Service performance. Testimonies were shared and the choir upheld the mission of CSC: introducing people to Jesus and helping them become fully devoted followers of Christ.

We are currently in need of additional players and pointers to support people with special needs. A musical background is helpful but not mandatory to join. We're very excited by what God has in store for this upcoming season and we'd encourage you to participate and be blessed!

Chimes Music Therapy Class

Thursday's at 7PM beginning September 16

With an experienced music therapy teacher and facilitator, Karen Lau, both parents and their children enjoyed a fun and meaningful season learning chimes and building relationships!

Last season we had a long waiting list, and so if you and your child are interested in joining in September please contact us ASAP to reserve a spot. Space is limited and will fill up fast.

Children & Adult Classes

Sunday's beginning September 12

Participants have thoroughly enjoyed the summer classes - all kinds of guest performers have joined us, including a Christian magician, parotteers, clowns & even drama, crafts and printmaking workshops, with the Art Gallery of Calgary. Fall classes will resume Sunday, September 12th.

We are always looking for volunteers to support our classes. We currently have 2 adult classes running on Sunday (9AM + 11AM), as well as our Children's Class, Sunday's at 11AM. This is a great opportunity for children and adults with special needs to grow in their relationship with God and build relationships with others, as well as a respite opportunity for parents to enjoy the worship service together.

We are also looking for volunteers to support children with special needs as a one-on-one aide in Promiseland, grade 5 + 6 and youth during the Sunday 11:00 services.

Parent Support Group

Last Monday Of Every Month, beginning September 27, 7PM

Under the loving and wise direction of Cindy Martin, the parent support group exists for parents to share, support and pray for one another. This year, every second month, guest speakers will be invited to address diverse issues that parents of children with special needs face. If there is a particular topic or local speaker you would like to come and speak to parents please contact us

ALPHA groups

Wednesday's + Thursday's, beginning September 8 + 9

We host adapted ALPHA (www.uk.alpha.org)  groups Wednesday's at 10AM and Thursday's at 10AM and 1PM.  The ALPHA course is a non-threatening, fun introduction to the Christian faith. The ALPHA course is for both adults with special needs and their support workers. The fall launch date for ALPHA groups is September 8 + 9. We are looking for volunteers to either facilitate an ALPHA course or support one.

Workshops

Occasionally, we host workshops on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. This past year workshop topics have included horticultural therapy, theatre arts, origami, and seasonal crafts. We are looking for volunteers to share their gifts and experience with adults with special needs and teach a life skill for an afternoon.

Volunteering

Adults with special needs volunteer in many capacities at CSC throughout the week, and there are many ministry opportunities for everyone to volunteer in the Special Needs Ministry. There are many ways to exercise your gifts of administration, hospitality, social events planning, mentoring, teaching, prayer, encouragement, worship, etc. The opportunities are endless.

Baptismal Preparation

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality that applies to everyone who has received Jesus as Lord and Saviour, regardless of ability. If you, your son, daughter, or client, is interested in baptism please contact us. We are also looking for volunteers interested in mentoring baptismal candidates.

Prayer & Visitation

Prayer is foundational to our ministry, and appointments can be made for you and your family to meet with a pastor for prayer. Appointments for hospital or home visitation can also be made at any time.

Family Christmas Celebration

December 4

An annual SN Ministry tradition in celebration of the birth of our Lord and new life in Christ! Come and join in the festivities: Christmas crafts, guest performers, and lots of good food and fellowship!
