FOLKS IT’S HERE!
The NW Stampede Country Fair is set to happen this Sunday, July 17, 10AM - 1:00 PM. There will be an awesome stampede breakfast, tons of live music, games for kids, a petting zoo, pie baking contest, strong man events, free parking onsite. And best of all - the weather promises to be good but the very best of all is that Jesus will be with us!
Here’s some things happening as I write - and other things planned:
Andrea Schmidt, our event coordinator, has been amazing in working with so many people to make this event happen
Sausages and pancakes have been donated for 1000 people (and yes we have a plan in place for more); Jon and Kristen Schorr’s small group will swarm the cooking grilles
Starbucks has donated all of the coffee!
Rob Schmidt is going to be our MC
The Damkars and Otto Bartel are going to be our pie baking judges (ladies - bring on those pies!!!)
Our ladies, led by Lilly Richardson will be prepared with some 60 dozens delicious pastries
There will be a HUGE tent 4000 square feet in place
a medic station organized by Wendy deBoer
We have professional parking attendants onhand, including our own constable Matt Schorr with Stephen Gibson and Dan Allen helping
A fire engine will be onsite
A huge generator will provide our power
Culligan is donating our drinking water
Jon Schorr and his musicians have awesome C/W music sets read to go
Meagan Werth, Mike Schorr and their volunteers have many games for kids planned
John Schmidt is running our strongman games
Chuck Brophy is our operations manager and is coordinating our entire setup/teardown operation
Gordon Erickson and the boys from Central will do their magic, as always, with sound
Brad Bevans has worked on sign fabrication along with Andrea’s creative team
Eric Taylor is delivering 100 bales for the event
Vivian Eaton has organized prayer partners to be present to cover the day in prayer and to pray to be available to minister upon request
Bruce Roper is donating his “bouncy air house” for our kids to enjoy
Sandra Ashton has worked tirelessly with Andrea Schmidt through a gizillion details and preparations - thank you Sandra and Andrea!
And oh, one more thing - thanks to the Damkar family for making their unbelievably beautiful land available for this event!
I know I have forgotten things but I just wanted to hook you a bit with some of the excitement all of us feel.
We are now at the 11th hour, after many months of planning. And I simply ask, at this critical time, thall all of us keep on praying for this event. Pray for safety, for volunteers enough to carry off the tasks, for solutions in the face of little emergencies that will arise, and most of all pray for our guests - the people that come from the community. As you pray, see in your heart hundreds of positive conversations taking place all over the Damkar property. I hope that many will be about real heart concerns - and about Jesus.
When you come, please step out and talk to people that you do not know. Just be friendly and life giving. Let us be, collectively, the hands, feet, eyes, ears and voice of Jesus for the people of our community. And when the moment seems right, invite someone to join us at the theatre for Sunday worship. And if you need help, just remember them to send them to the info table - right by the huge sign with the question mark. At the table we will have small cards with our website address published, free New Testaments, a supply of the WHY book and the small booklet, Steps to Peace with God. A number of people have volunteered to help me at the info table. I would love to have more helpers there. Just come join me - even if just for 15 minutes...
One final note: there will be no worship at the theatre on Sunday. Of course you know that services at Central commence as usual: Saturday 6:30 pm, Sunday 9/11 am, and 6:00 pm.
How to get there!
Travel west on Crowfoot Trail to 12 Mile Coulee Road, turn left (south), go about one mile. You’ll see us on your right. Drivers please exercise extreme caution as your exit and re-enter 12 Mile Coulee Road. It is heavily travelled and we all must be very careful. Also exercise caution as you walk on the land as it is not as smooth as city parkland.
Note to Volunteers
For all of our volunteers, we ask that you please park in the designated area near the tent. And one more thing, you are our signage :o) We ask that you visit the info centre and please wear the Volunteer Tag. It simply says: Northwest Regional Centre Volunteer - A Ministry of Centre Street Church.
Word Byte
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people…” (Galatians 6:9-10).
