Compassionate Ministries

Who We Are

CSC’s Compassionate Ministries exists to walk with people out of poverty into fulness of life. (John 10:10)

We see this lived out in 2 ways:

  1. We offer short term relief for basic needs and a sense of love and community.
  2. We work with those that wish to pursue a journey of deeper life change. Helping them build a larger plan of action that integrates multiple dimensions of well-being: skills development, job readiness, emotional and mental health, community belonging and purpose.

What We Do

People come to CSC’s Compassionate Ministries to receive short-term relief for basic needs and a sense of love and community. For those that wish to pursue a journey of deeper life change we work with them to build a larger plan of action that all integrates multiple dimensions of well being… skill development, job readiness, emotional and mental health, community, belonging and purpose.

Here are some of the programs and partnerships that help us do this:

The Well Café exhibits true Welcome and Belonging in Jesus’ name by inviting our neighbors and friends who are in need into a café space to enjoy hot nourishing meals, enjoy worship music and receive needed resources. All while having the opportunity to meet others and make new friends.

Monday & Wednesday evenings 5:30pm – 8pm *except statutory holidays

4210 Centre Street N.

Our prayer is that The Well Café offers the picture of living water and provides living hope as presented in the story of Jesus’ interaction with the woman at the well in John 4. It says in verses 13 and 14, ‘Jesus answered – “If you drink from Jacob’s well, you’ll be thirsty again and again, but if anyone drinks the living water I give them, they will never thirst again and will be forever satisfied!”

We provide support to those living in poverty in ways that promote sustainability and life change. Our life skills support focuses on helping people explore job opportunities in our city through offering resources such as assistance in budgeting, resume writing and job searching skills.

We look forward to our future home  as part of the Centre for the City where we will be able to expand this area of support.

We are all on a journey. Sometimes life goes well and at other times, it can be challenging with many twists and turns. We’re not foreign to these twists and turns and are here to walk with anyone who is struggling in daily life.

We offer a 2-step process to meet a variety of needs:

FIRST STEP - INTAKE APPOINTMENT:

We invite individuals to an initial meeting to hear their story, discuss emergency needs and see how we can help. Appointments are available Tuesdays and Thursdays and at other times by special arrangement.

SECOND STEP - LIFE BUDGET:

For those who are interested in partnering with us to address life needs and areas of change, we will meet for a ‘Life Budget Interview’ where we look at important areas of a person’s life: financial, physical, relational and spiritual. Appointments are available Tuesdays and Thursdays and at other times by special arrangement.

Those in need are asked to call 403 520 1227 to book an appointment.

There are a growing number of people in need who have diagnosed or non-diagnosed mental health issues and we want to provide support to anyone in need in a way that leads to true life change in Jesus’ name. Through a collaborative partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) we are able to help serve people with mental health challenges

In addition, we partner with other organizations and people who are offering timely expertise to walk closely with those struggling with mental health issues.

We regularly refer those in need to accredited Christian counsellors for more support and we regularly engage with appropriate community supports, including City of Calgary social workers and area agencies.

For our referral list of Christian counsellors, contact us at 403 520 1227 or email

We provide free clothing for those in need and those who desire to dress for success. Gently used clothing provides dignity and value to those seeking to meet this practical need in their lives.

Since the beginning of our partnership with the Calgary Food Bank in 2016, thousands upon thousands of hampers have been distributed to needy Calgarians, marking CSC as one of the busiest and largest depots for the Food Bank in Calgary!

The Calgary Food Bank has been one of our key partnerships in serving those in need. We have seen many people introduced to CSC and experience the hope that is found in Jesus through receiving practical help.

We offer Food Bank Depot times four times a week to meet these great needs:

  • Monday & Wednesday Evenings | 6pm – 7:30pm
  • Tuesday & Thursday Mornings | 10am – 11:30am

To receive a Calgary Food Bank Hamper, please call 403 253 2055, visit the website, or go to the Calgary Food Bank.

We are looking forward to the completion and the opening of the Centre for the City where our Food Bank support will expand and we will be able to help even more people in Jesus’ name.

Our monthly meals for the wider community are so well attended, they require more space. These will resume once we have finalized construction of our Centre for the City .
